Mewar Pottery Cluster will cover Gogunda, Jhadol block of Udaipur District and Nathdwara block of Rajsamand District. Udaipur is located in the southern part of Rajasthan state, just near to the Gujarat border. It is surrounded by Aravali Range , which separates it from Thar Desert. It is around 660 km from Delhi and approx. 800 km from Mumbai, placed almost in the middle of two major Indian metro cities. Besides, connectivity with Gujarat ports provide Udaipur a strategic geographical advantage. Udaipur is an ancient and historical city having existence since 2000 BC as the name of Ahar. From that historical time itself it has been known for its pottery. Gogunda, Molela, Khamnor, Morval are villages which are famous for their earthen pots and terracotta in the region. Even today large number of artisan families of pottery earns their livelihoods by skillfully converting the clay into various daily use items and some value added finished products.
They both sold in rural and urban markets thus such activity provides large employment to the rural poor; especially the poorest among poor. Mewar Pottery Producer Company Limited a Private Limited company formed with Support of NABARD in 2020. Company have supported 625 potter artisans.
